ABOUT THIS WORK
This combination set represents Robin Armstrong’s complete work on the I Ching, forty-five years in the making.
Book One provides the history of the I Ching and explains its relationship to astrology. It lays the groundwork for understanding how the oracle and the zodiac interact.
Book Two, the Main Text, presents a new interpretation of each hexagram and each line.
One of the unique and defining features of this interpretation is that all references to “the superior man” and his virtue and ethics have been removed. There is no male or female in the hexagrams. The text is written to the individual in everyone — the person who encounters freedom and responsibility and, with the help of this new version, may be better able to avoid trouble and remain free of blame.
The Main Text also presents the hexagrams in direct association with the corresponding degrees of the zodiac. This opens a vast new area of I Ching research and allows the oracle to be used more effectively in astrological analysis and psychological study.
Book Three, the Appendices, contains over 2,500 pages of material that explore the relationship of the I Ching to many other fields of study, including Kabbalah, Numbers, the Seven Rays, Genealogy, Rhythm, Melody, and Chanting.
Book Four — The Great Treatise presents the deeper structural and philosophical foundations of the I Ching, exploring the underlying principles that shape the hexagrams, their sequence, and the laws of change.
